The
mission of the library media program is to ensure that students and
staff are effective users of ideas and information.
The
mission is accomplished by:
-
By providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all
formats
-
By providing instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest
in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas
-
By working with other educators to design learning strategies to
meet the needs of individual students

The
program for students in the library media center at Strode Station
includes a weekly scheduled library class. During that time,
instruction in use of the library, sharing of stories, and checking out
of library books is done. Kindergarten students check out one library
book at a time. First grade starts out the year checking out only one
book but are able to check out two at a time after Christmas break.
Second through fifth grade can check out two books at a time. In
addition, there are open checkout times in the morning for students to
exchange their library books.
The Accelerated
Reading Program is used at our school. The classroom teacher sets the
requirements for the individual students. The library tries to provide
a variety of books on a large reading range so that the students will
have many from which to choose. Not all good books will be AR,
however.
It is our hope
that all students will find a lifelong love of reading and learning.
The library sponsors two Book Fairs
each year—one in the fall and one in the spring. Parent volunteers at
these events and at other times of the year are welcome. Feel free to
contact us with any concerns or ways we can help your child.
